Based on the 2021-2022 data, the undergraduate student population at NLU is greatly skewed towards women students, with 74.2% of undergraduate students being women and 25.8% being men. The total number of full-time, first-year undergraduate students is 3,607, with 2,676 women and 931 men.

On the other hand, the graduate student population at NLU is greatly skewed towards women students, with 82.5% of undergraduate students being women and 17.5% being men. The total number of full-time, graduate students is 3,708, with 3,058 women and 650 men.

The largest ethnic group among the students is Hispanic, comprising 54.5% of the undergraduates population , with a total of 1,961 students.

Following behind are African American students, constituting 17.7% of the student body, with 638 students. White students represent 15.8% of the population, with 567 students, while Asian students account for 2.4%, with 85 students. Mixed race students account for 1.6% of the undergraduate student body, comprising 58 students. Finally, Hawaiian students have the smallest representation at 0.0% , with 1 students.

International students make up 1.9% of the undergraduate population, totaling 68 students.

There is also a notable percentage of students with an unknown race, making up 6.2% of the population, totaling 222 students.
