Gender Diversity
Based on the 2021-2022 data, the undergraduate student population at UNM is largely skewed towards women students, with 58.4% of undergraduate students being women and 41.6% being men. The total number of full-time, first-year undergraduate students is 15,793, with 9,220 women and 6,573 men.
On the other hand, the graduate student population at UNM is largely skewed towards women students, with 55.9% of undergraduate students being women and 44.1% being men. The total number of full-time, graduate students is 6,346, with 3,547 women and 2,799 men.

The largest ethnic group among the students is Hispanic, comprising 52.5% of the undergraduates population , with a total of 7,774 students.
Following behind are White students, constituting 31.5% of the student body, with 4,663 students. Asian students represent 4.6% of the population, with 679 students, while Mixed race students account for 4.2%, with 616 students. African American students account for 3.0% of the undergraduate student body, comprising 451 students. Finally, Hawaiian students have the smallest representation at 0.2% , with 28 students.
International students make up 2.6% of the undergraduate population, totaling 390 students.
